This is the last article of my three-part series of my activities in Houston, that I have loved sharing. This is the previous article in case you have not caught up.

B. Elevated Candle Bar

I made my own candle. This activity topped my highlight for this trip. It was one of my ‘pocket of happiness’ moments.

We had our session booked for the afternoon around 3 o’clock. It was easy locating the store as we didn’t live far from it. I fell in love with the interior aesthetics. There was a blend of different pleasing scents that could calm anybody’s nerves. The atmosphere was really calm and peaceful.

We got checked in and headed for our seats. With us was a small clipboard where we had to fill out the 2 different scents that we would choose for our candle. Prior to this, our lovely instructor Hunter, schooled us a little on how to go about choosing the scents, right proportions to use and how eco- friendly they were. She even had us sipping some wine and champagne while at it.

My Highlight for this workshop was naming my candle. I called mine Yanzwa (to be loved).

The class took about two hours. Pouring in the wax was the last step, after which we had to leave them with Hunter to do her magic and collect them later in the evening. I would suggest if you’re out of town like we were and want to pick up your candles the same day to choose the first class of the day. They however give a 30 day period to pick them up after which if there’s a no show they get donated to charity. They do have a shipping option as well if that works for you.

I would recommend calling in a head of time to book your slot or even checking online. This could be better as you can see how many people the class already has before adding yourself. At the end we also got a thank you card, that offered a 15% discount on our next visit.

SOJU 7

Up until this trip, I didn’t know Houston was home to several karaoke spots. This was our plan B karaoke spot. Most of the places including this one are open as late as 2am.

I was looking forward to quenching my thirst for Korean food but they didn’t have much to offer. They didn’t have Korean delicacies but I’d say whatever food they served came in good portions. In case you also what to try some soju (Korean drink), this is a good spot for that.

We however did enjoy our singing time, which flew by very fast.

Tip: To save on time, have a rough idea or even make a list of the songs you’d want to sing – that way you don’t waste time perusing the yellow-pages like song book looking for your songs.

Also have in mind that most of the songs are old school.

Soju Blues was our first choice. We missed out on this as it was fully booked for the night. So call prior just to book your spot. They seem to offer a variety of Korean food too.

The Galleria

This is one of the big malls that house a couple of really cool activities to do including the Museum of Illusions. You can enjoy a therapeutic shopping spree and suffer the consequences later. It is a good place to pass time and hang out.
