–Paragliding
I started planning and fantasizing about paragliding even before I got to the island. This is because I had already done a small research on the activities that I had wanted to do during my stay.
Tropic Parapente (https://www.tropicparapente.com/en/?fbclid=IwAR2XD65m7Y-Pi1QMdijb0f7_Evd9UETskgghuKhjF92h3unZrZqrRoD-79M) was our destination. The facilitators were detailed on their briefing including what was required from us, the clients. What I really liked about the package is that the offered great pictures and videos. Details are all up on the link.
From our experience morning hours are the best time just to avoid cancellation because of the bad wind. The meeting point is also accessible by bus. You might want to wear some warm clothes for when you are up in the air.

–Hike to Mafate
Cirque de Mafate is a caldera on the island. It has different hiking destinations. Ajami and I decided to hike until La Nouvelle which was a total of 6hours. Since the 6pm curfew was still being implemented and plus of course we were tired, we spent the night in a gîte in Salazie. A gîte is just like a cabin with bathrooms, kitchen area and a lounge area. They are quite a variety to choose from. We chose to just pay for beds and eat out which saved us money. You can also come in with your own food.
Ajami & I on our way to La Nouvelle Mafate is accessible only on foot or by helicopter Hiking back from La Nouvelle
Depending on the season you choose to go raincoats and water proof garments might come in handy. The bus schedule is also a bit tricky – so for this one we rented out a car.
Kama K, I got you on the vlog, link…

–Canyoning
On my very first day on the island, I got a small tour of a few places and I happened to see some guys canyoning. I made it my assignment to get to do this since I missed the opportunity for it in Guadeloupe Island.
I finally did it and let me tell you it is the most amazing thing you’ll ever do!! I did mine in Ste. Suzanne with https://www.guides3salazes.com/canyoning. He is actually the same facilitator I saw that day.
Christophe will keenly instruct you on all you need; good thing is all the instructions are included in the link above. Guess what??! They also offer pictures and videos at no additional cost 😉
Rappelling My team and I
Trust me; I’ll be on the lookout for the next opportunity to Canyon!
In the meantime see how I fell on the first jump

–Transparent Kayak
I wish I had just gone on this activity instead of the bad safari trip that I am going to talk about below.
Trou d’eau beach offers a range of activities aside from the normal basking for a tan on the beach. Having done snorkeling before, I decided to try out the Transparent Kayak which I discovered is such a cool and calming experience plus you get to see the life underwater.
At the ocean Happy Islanders 🙂 – Ajami & I
https://www.kayak-transparent-reunion.fr/location-canoe-kayak.html was really kind to us and even offered us a free unlimited paddling session since covid restricted them from hosting cocktail sessions since it was part of the package.
We did a guided tour so we also got to learn about marine life and also see a lot of cool ocean life.
See what we saw and share in our paddling struggles

Let me also share the bad and ugly
–Safari Trip
I will start by saying this is a no no and a waste of money.
Karyna and I were supposed to at least see dolphins or at least some ocean creatures/life. However we ended up just have a bad speed boat ride WITH NO LIFE JACKET on shark dominated water.
Unfortunately Karyna also ended up at the ER because of the back aches we got after due to how the boat kept flying on the water.
We would however recommend anything glass boat, at least if you don’t see any dolphins, you’re guaranteed to see ocean life.
